The PowerDNA® (Distributed Networked Automation) Cube and RACKtangle I/O chassis from UEI are compact, rugged, Ethernet-based data acquisition (DAQ) interfaces, ideally suited for a wide variety of industrial, aerospace and laboratory data acquisition and control applications. Each Cube/RACKtangle chassis includes a CPU, real-time OS, Ethernet interface and slots allowing the installation of I/O boards. Cubes are available that hold 3 or 6 I/O boards while the RACKtangle allows the installation of up to 12 I/O boards. Configure your PowerDNA Cube or RACKtangle by selecting the I/O boards needed to match your application. The I/O boards for the Cube and RACKtangle are functionally identical, though mechanically slightly different. I/O boards compatible with the Cube are designated with a DNA prefix (e.g. DNA-AI-207), while RACKtangle compatible I/O boards use a DNR prefix (e.g. DNR-AI-207) With over 25 different I/O boards available we’re sure to have just what you need. UEIDAQ Framework library uses the same API to access any devices from the PowerDAQ PCI/PXI and PowerDNA Distributed Ethernet I/O families. Using UEiDAQ Framework library dramatically cuts the amount of code needed to perform data-acq and control tasks. UEILogger™
High Performance Data Loggers/Recorders

The UEILogger™ is a powerful, rugged, flexible and easy-to-use data logger (or data recorder) suitable for use in a wide variety of applications. Based upon UEI’s popular PowerDNA family it uses the same DNA series I/O boards. The UEILogger maintains all of the PowerDNA’s flexibility and adds a powerful standalone data logging/recording capability. Each Data Logger Cube contains the Logger “engine” as well as either 3 (UEILogger 300) or 6 (UEILogger 600) I/O slots. Configure your data logger by selecting the I/O boards required to match your application. With over 20 different I/O boards available, there’s sure to be a configuration to meet your needs.


UEIPAC Deployment and FAQ Information Sheet

The UEILogger supports sample rates up to 100 samples per second on each I/O channel or port. Data is logged onto standard SD Cards (2 Gig SD Card included) and may be retrieved via the unit’s Ethernet port or the directly from the SD Card using a standard SD Card reader. The 2 Gig SD Card included will hold over 500 million 16-bit A/D readings.

The intuitive, Windows-based software provided configures the data logger and extracts the data from the SD Card. There is absolutely no programming required. The software allows you to set input and output ranges, sample/update rates, signal conditioning, etc. all from simple pull down menus. The data logging “program” may be downloaded via the unit’s standard Ethernet port or stored on the SD Card.

Logging applications may be started and stopped Via Ethernet command, On power up, Start/Stop button, Real-time clock/calendar, Sync connector input, or based upon an analog input. UEIPAC™
Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs)

The UEIPAC programmable automation controllers offer an unprecedented combination of flexibility, high performance, low cost and small size. The UEIPAC unit is an ideal solution in a wide variety of measurement and control applications including: Temperature control, Remote vehicle control (UAV and ULV), Hardware in-the-loop (HIL) and more. The UEIPAC is also an ideal solution for a host of embedded data acquisition (DAQ) applications as it allows systems to be developed without the cost, or the additional space required by an external host computer. The UEIPAC 300 is 4” x 4” x 4” and offers 3 I/O slots. The UEIPAC 600 is slightly larger at 4” x 4” x 5.8” but provides 6 I/O slots and allows up to 150 analog inputs or 288 DIO channels.

The UEIPAC uses the same I/O boards as our popular PowerDNA family and includes analog input (with up to 24 bit resolution), analog output, digital I/O, Serial and CAN communications, ARINC-429 networking, counter/timer, quadrature encoder input and more. With over over 25 different I/O boards available, there is sure to be a configuration perfect for your application.

Using the UEIPAC, applications written on your PC are deployed on the cube and run fully standalone. This allows the smaller, faster, more reliable and higher performances systems. It also eliminates the cost of a dedicated host PC and guarantees long term availability of the identical hardware. This is critical when certifying products through CE or FDA etc.

Your application runs as a regular Linux process giving you access to the standard POSIX API provided by the GNU C runtime library (glibc) as well as any other library that can be compiled for Linux (for example: libxml, libaudiofile…).

To develop programs for the UEIPAC, you will need to purchase one one copy of the UEIPAC Linux TK programmers toolkit. The toolkit provides the various items needed to write applications for the UEIPAC. Regardless of the number of cubes you deploy, you need only purchase one programming toolkit.

UEISIM Cubes
Simulink/RTW Target Cubes

The UEISIM offers Simulink users a new, powerful and flexible I/O target. Models built in Simulink are deployed directly on the UEISIM using Real-Time Workshop. The combination creates a powerful new solution in the creation and tuning of many real-time and non-real-time applications. These include simulation model verification, rapid prototyping, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. The UEISIM is rugged, flexible and expandable enough that it is not only a great solution while in your development cycle, it’s also the ideal solution for your production hardware. To use the UEISIM simply: a) Build your Simulink application. b) Open MATLAB, and select Simulink/Embedded target for UEISIM. c) Convert your model to use the UEISIM I/O blocks (if you had not used them in your original model). d) Create an executable via RTW. e) Connect the UEISIM in "external mode" (if you wish to remotely monitor the application while running on the UEISIM). f) Start your simulation. Six easy steps and your simulation is running live on real hardware.

The UEISIM 300 is 4" x 4" x 4" and offers 3 I/O slots. The UEISIM 600 is slightly larger at 4" x 4" x 5.8" but provides 6 I/O slots and allows up to 150 analog inputs or 288 DIO channels. The heart of every UEISIM is a PowerPC processor running a standard (2.6.x) Linux OS kernel. Flash memory contains the OS Kernel and drivers for each of the I/O boards. The CPU/NIC also provides an SD Card slot, Ethernet interface (including a single port switch), Intercube trigger/sync interface, RS-232 serial port, power supply inputs and a variety of annunciator LEDs. The file system is contained on the SD card and includes the other components of the operating system such as libraries, utilities, init script and daemons.

The UEISIM is rugged and robust. Tested from -40° to +85° C, at 50 g shock, 5 g vibration and altitudes up to 70,000 feet, the UEISIM is tough enough for the most challenging applications. All I/O is also fully isolated from the controller so the UEISIM is immune to the glitches and spikes so commonly seen in an industrial environment.

The UEISIM cubes offer a wide variety of mounting options. A flange kit is available that allows the cubes to be mounted to a wall or other flat surface. Rack kits and DIN Rail kits are available to allow mounting in 19" racks or on DIN rails respectively. For portable applications there is even an attaché style carrying case that will safely hold a cube, its power supply, cables and screw terminal panels.

UEIModbus™
Modbus TCP data acquisition and control cube

The UEIModbus cubes are compact, rugged, Ethernet-based data acquisition and control interface that communicates with a host computer or PLC over MODBUS TCP. Their flexibility allows you to configure one or more cubes to match the specific I/O requirements of your application. The UEIModbus is ideally suited for a wide variety of industrial monitoring and control applications. The MODBUS messaging protocol was developed by Modicon in 1979 and is used to establish master-slave/client-server communication between intelligent devices. It is a defacto standard, truly open and the most widely used network protocol in the industrial manufacturing environment.

Two versions of the UEIModbus are available. The UEIModbus 300 provides slots for 3 I/O boards and is 4" x 4" x 4". For larger applications the UEIModbus provides 6 I/O slots in a slightly larger 4" x 4" x 5.8" cube.

Match the UEIModbus Cube to your system by selecting the I/O boards required to monitor and control your systems signals. PowerDNA works fine with BEDO Signal Conditioning Systems

The picture shows a PowerDNA CM5 Cube integrated into one of Bedo’s SAE-16288 signal-conditioning systems.

The unit, called the SAE-16288-CM5, is equipped with 12 signal amplifiers and 24 analog-input channels with 16-bit resolution and a galvanic isolation of 1500V.
